High School Residency Performance

by Robin Stiehm

Please join DPC in Central Point, for our 5th annual performance at the Crater Performing Arts Center

Sat. & Sun., February 10 & 11, 2012, at 7:30pm.

This very special performance is undertaken in partnership with Crater High, where we've been teaching for 2 weeks - a group of our students will join us for the finale!

Ticket sales provide a large part of the support for this important educational project, where high school students get access to DPC's amazing dancers every day for 2 weeks and share a stage with them in a collaboratively created dance.

You get access to an amazing DPC performance on a lovely stage, at the bargain price of $10/ticket! Tickets at the door only. You'll see the hit from "Call Back the Sun", Grassfire, along with the compelling new piece, Solo and the edgy Merrill, To The Stage Please all with beautiful lighting by Bob Peterson.

Please join us for an evening you won't forget!

Thanks for your support,
Robin Stiehm and Veronica, Alonzo, Erin, Will and Brianna - The Dancing People

by Robin Stiehm

DPC has been invited to the Open Look International Dance Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia!!!!

July 1-10, 2012.

This our chance to introduce Southern Oregon dance to the world. We must supply our own airfare to make this happen and can use any help you can give. Maybe you have some Frequent Flyer miles to donate? or something to add to our fundraising campaign? Maybe you'd like to sponsor a house party fundraiser?

Also, keep an eye open for a March FamJam in support of this trip!

Please consider mailing your tax-deductible donation to Dancing People Company, 310 Oak St. #5, Ashland, OR 97520 or donate easily and securely online!

Thank you!

Dance In The Park!

by Robin Stiehm

For 25 years audiences have come to Ashland's historic and beautiful Lithia Park on cool summer evenings to watch live ballet performances by Ballet Rogue. Sadly though, that company folded last year.

So, Dancing People is stepping in to fill the void with Dance In The Park. DPC will perform in the Lithia Park Bandshell on July 23rd and 24th, beginning a new tradition for local dance lovers and an extra treat for summer visitors to our lovely town.

Imagine bringing a picnic to scenic Lithia Park (Ashland Creek burbling in the background, little girls dressed as fairies cavorting on the lawn before the performance) then settling in to watch a fine dance concert - athletic, evocative, witty, beautiful, and of course entertaining - all you could ask for in a dance performance. We'll be showing some dances I recently created for our Salon Series, including "Gritty Interval" and "An Uncommon Enchantment". I'm also working on a new dance, especially for Dance In The Park.

You can help make this possible for yourself and others to enjoy!

We need to raise money for materials for a portable dance floor to lay over the concrete sub-floor. Labor will be donated. This is essential to protect our dancers. It can also be reused year after year.

We also need funds to rent a sound system, publicize the event and pay a little bit to our talented and dedicated artists. You probably know one of them: Emily, Will, Veronica, Erin, Brianna and Alonzo.

Our dream is to build this project into a full dance festival, with dance artists from across the Pacific Northwest joining Dancing People. Along with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, we would add one more reason to visit beautiful Ashland in the summer. From humble beginnings, great things can happen, but we can't do it alone - please help this first year succeed. The City of Ashland and two generous individuals have given us a good start, but we still have a ways to go.

You can help by donating online here, or mail a check to our studio, 310 Oak St. #5 Ashland, OR 97520. Or, go to our www.kickstarter.com site, where you can see our promo video, too! Your reward? A big hug and a great dance show in the park!

DPC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Salon Series 2011

by Robin Stiehm

At DPC we've just finished the first week of rehearsals for this year's Salon Series performances at the DanceSpace, April 30-May 9. I started creating two new dances, unnamed as yet. Sometimes choreographing is like grocery shopping when you're hungry - you start with a list, but end up with a cart full of unexpecteds! I started the first rehearsal with a vague idea of what I wanted to make, something to do with individual characters each dancer would portray. About 3 hours later, I realized that was not what I was making at all. I chose to follow the unconscious into something I think will end up being about chaos and rejuvenation, grit and magic. Maybe the "character" piece will reassert itself later. Alonzo, V, Emily, Erin, Bri Will and I are blindly following the Muse!

On First Friday, April 1st, at 6pm, stop in and get a first peek at some of the new material we're cooking up! DPC's 310 Studio, 310 Oak Street, Ashland
